Overwhelming demand for Malaysian Masters tickets

SIBU: Demand for the RM80 season tickets for the Victor Far East Malaysia Badminton Masters to be held at Sibu Indoor Stadium from Jan 17 to 22 is so overwhelming that organisers are working round the clock to cope.

Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said an additional 600 season tickets have been printed.

“This is beyond our expectations and we’d never expected the people here to be so crazy and frenzy over the Malaysia Masters. It surely augurs well for the sport and is a right step to help promote Sibu through this international sporting event,” he told a press conference yesterday afternoon.

With him were State Sports Council (MSNS) director Dr Ong Kong Swee, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) senior manager Ahmad Idris, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity permanent secretary Karim Affendy and Deputy Sibu Resident Wong Hee Seng.

Besides the season tickets, Karim said the individual tickets were also selling like hot cakes.

The four ticketing agents here are World Sports Equipment Sdn Bhd (0168862255), TH Sports (0138066699), Thumb’s Up Badminton Academy (0198291868) and Pro Wira Badminton (0128862627). Besides, LEA Sports Centre outlets throughout Sarawak have been appointed as ticketing agents.

Karim said the event is a pride to both Sibu and Sarawak, and hoped fans from Sarikei, Bintangor and Kapit will also turn up in full force.

Entrance is free for the early rounds on Jan 17 and 18.

For the preliminary rounds on Jan 19, tickets will be sold at RM15 for adults and RM7 for children.

For the quarterfinals and semi-finals on Jan 20 and 21 respectively, tickets will be sold at RM25 for adults and RM12 for children.

Tickets for the final on Jan 22 will be priced at RM35 for adults and RM17 for children.

For every ticket purchased, members of the public will be given a receipt which can be used to redeem the official tickets matches.

The redemption of official tickets can be done from Jan 11 to 22.

Those who bought their tickets from LEA Sports Centre outlets can redeem their tickets there while the rest can also be done at the four local ticketing agents.

The international tournament is sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation, organised by BAM and hosted by Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) with the cooperation of Sibu Division Badminton Association (SBDA) and local authorities. -The Borneo Post
