MEXICO: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is leading a delegation from the Ministry and Malaysia National Paralympic Council to Mexico to witness the 2017 World Para Swimming Championship.
The purpose of the visit was to have a hands-on experience on the running of the World Para Swimming Championship. This follows Sarawak winning the bid to host the 2019 Championship in Kuching.
The Minister took the time to witness the competition, tour the technical set-up and meet officials from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to discuss the technical and logistical support needed.
He also visited the media centre and was briefed on the its operation especially on live telecast and support services to ensure prompt results and streaming.
The 2019 World Para Swimming Championship to be held in Kuching is expected to attract more than 85 countries with over 1,500 para swimmmers.
On Dec 7th (today) Abdul Karim will be attending the closing ceremony and deliver his acceptance speech as the 2019 host.
Among the delegation are Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Sarawak Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, Sports Sarawak permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, Sarawak Sports Corporation CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee and officials from Malaysian Paralympic Council. -TheBorneoPost
