KUCHING: Four-term Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is keen to contest for a party post in Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Triennial General Meeting (TGM) on Feb 8-12, next year.
Abdul Karim was all smiles when asked by reporters on the subject matter and said that if anything he will be going for just the PBB Supreme Council Member post or a higher position in the party as one of PBB vice presidents.
“But we must wait for all the PBB branches and sub-branches annual general meeting to be completed by Dec 31 before deciding on anything,” he said when met after receiving a courtesy call by the Sarawak Arms Sport Association (Sasa) at his office in Masja yesterday.
Abdul Karim who is also the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports was first elected as Asajaya assemblyman in 2001 when he won against Independent candidate Abang Abu Bakar Abang Mustapa by a majority of 3,665 votes.
Before Abdul Karim represented Asajaya in 2001, the constituency was represented by the current Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
In 2016, Abdul Karim retained Asajaya seat by 4,978 majority against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Abang Junaidi Abang Gom.
Abdul Karim is currently a PBB Supreme Council member.
