Kudos to Sarawak's strongman, Jonah Chang Rigan who bagged 3 gold medals in 21st Malaysia Games (SukmaXXI)

Sarawak strongman Jonah Chang Rigan had done us proud after achieving his 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) target of bagging three gold medals when he triumphed in the men’s hammer throw finals with a distance of 54.65 metres at Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya.

Jonah had previously won gold in both the men’s discus throw and shot put events, including a new Games record for the latter of 17.66 metres.

The 21-year-old athlete was in a class of his own after he set a new Sukma record in the men’s shot put despite an injury during the men's final held on August 19.

Jonah’s mark of 17.66m in the second attempt saw him clinch the gold medal and smash the 14-year-old Games record of 17.31m set by Terengganu’s Adi Aliffudin Husin during the 2010 Games in Melaka.

Well known to be jovial, Jonah had disclosed plans to head home to Sarikei for a break after Sukma XXI before returning to competition. According to him, the journey of earning three gold medals for Sarawak contingent was tough but worth it because he had to train for two hours daily.

However, he looks forward to the next competitions which will be the Cahya Mata Sarawak Super Series 2024 which start in Perlis and the Super Series final in Sarawak on October 25 to 27 at Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya in Kuching.
