KUCHING: Sarawak Cultural Village is all set to welcome visitors to the much-anticipated Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2019, said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“The facilities and the buildings structure of Sarawak Cultural Village are much newer this year and I would like say that we are proud of the efforts that are being put into preparing the international event to the global crowd,” said Abdul Karim during a walkabout at Sarawak Cultural Village here yesterday to inspect the preparation works for the festival.
Abdul Karim shared that about RM13 million had been allocated by the state government to carry out upgrading and renovation works at Sarawak Cultural Village in order to provide a more comfortable and conducive environment to the festival-goers.

“The renovation works were also carried out because Sarawak Cultural Village had not undergone refurbishment in quite a while,” he said.
With RWMF entering its 22nd edition this year, Abdul Karim believes that the organiser has accumulated the required experience in welcoming multinational visitors to a festival of this magnitude.
On another note, he said environment-friendly initiatives had been incorporated into this year’s event, whereby visitors are encouraged to bring their own tumblers to the festival as about 20 water dispensers will be available throughout the festival ground.
“This going-green effort is part of the initiatives of the organiser and Sarawak Cultural Village in reducing plastic usage and at the same time, reducing the amount of trash generated from the festival,” said Abdul Karim, adding the festival will not be selling bottled water to reduce single-use plastic usage.
He also said souvenirs will be on sale during the festival for visitors to immortalise their memories at the festival.
In regards to wireless internet connection at the venue, Abdul Karim hoped that the internet connection would be much better this year as efforts had been made to improve internet connectivity following the many complaints on poor connection from visitors at last year’s event.
The Rainforest World Music Festival 2019, which is held from July 12 to 14 at Sarawak Cultural Village, is an annual three-day music festival that celebrates the diversity of world music with a line-up of activities being organised, including music workshops and main-stage evening concerts. -TheBorneoPost
