KOTA SAMARAHAN: The initiative by Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) and Beras Nasional Berhad (Bernas) to distribute packets of ‘bubur lambuk’ during the Ramadan month has always been the highlight for Muslims throughout the state.
According to Assistant Minister of Youth Development Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the distribution of bubur lambuk (porridge) will also enable families to have an extra dish during the breaking of fast besides the more traditional menu of ‘kuih muih’.
“This is the eleventh year for Saberkas and also the seventh year for Bernas to jointly distribute bubur lambuk to Muslims across the state,” he said during the Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk Saberkas Bernas 2014 at Masjid Kampung Baru here yesterday.
The Saberkas vice-president and Asajaya assemblyman said that it was also very fortunate for folk of Kampung Baru to be in the distribution list by receiving a total of 823 packs of the porridge.
Meanwhile, Bernas Sarawak corporate communication executive Sahrein Maloh said they gave a total of RM30,000 for the programme this year.
“We are expecting to produce a total of 24,000 packets of bubur lambuk with a tonne of rice,” said Sahrein.
He also said that Kampung Baru was the fourth destination for the programme after its launch at Kuching Esplanade by Saberkas president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He added that the programme will also be held at 16 other destinations across the state, including Limbang, and is expected to be held until the final week of Ramadan.
