Sultan of Brunei to grace Sarawak Regatta 2017 on Nov 19

KUCHING: Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will grace the Nov 19 race of the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2017.

This was announced by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah after the cheque presentation from sponsors at the ministry’s office in Bangunan Baitulmakmur here yesterday

The annual event will run from Nov 10 to 19 this year, highlighting its key events – the headline regatta (Nov 17-19) and International Dragon Boat Race (Nov 10-12).

KUCHING: Temasya sukan air popular di negeri ini, Regata Sarawak 2017 kembali lagi dengan menawarkan hadiah wang tunai berjumlah RM10,000 untuk Raja Sungai.

Menteri Pelancongan, Kesenian, Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah berkata temasya sukan air itu bermula dari 10 hingga 19 November ini dengan pelbagai acara menarik disediakan.

Beliau menjelaskan, antara acara menjadi tumpuan Perlumbaan Perahu Naga Antarabangsa bermula dari 10 hingga 12 November menyaksikan 21 pasukan telah menghantar penyertaan.

Karim's ministry feels deeply honoured with Scoot's decision

KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry felt deeply honoured with Scoot's - a low-cost arm of the Singapore Airlines Group - decision to choose Kuching as its first destination in East Malaysia.

Its minister, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, in his press statement as published by The Borneo Post, said the decision would not only offer a new avenue to the state populace as well as the neigbouring state and country to fly to popular destinations, "we are also immensely pleased to welcome Scoot and its passengers from the region and beyond to visit our beautiful state that is a prime destination for culture, nature and adventure tourism."

He added his ministry was confident that "the launch of Scoot’s direct flight between Kuching and Singapore will further help us to promote Sarawak and Kuching as the preferred nature tourism destination.”

Double cheer as Sarawak rugby salute Brother Columba

KUCHING: The Sarawak Rugby Union’s (SRU) efforts to rejuvenate rugby in the state has received a tremendous boost with good news from the Sarawak government last Sunday.

Firstly, the Song Kheng Hai Rugby Ground will stay on as a permanent venue for rugby activities.

Secondly, the State government has also decided to build two more rugby pitches at the Sarawak Sports Complex for regional and international tournaments.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah conveyed the good news during the closing ceremony of the inaugural Brother Columba Memorial Cup Sevens at Song Kheng Hai Ground on Sunday.
