Transparency is a taboo for oppositions -Karim

SIBU: The opposition’s refusal to sign the Transparency International Malaysia’s Election Integrity Pledge unmasked their true colours.

SUPP Sibu branch vice chairman Daniel Ngieng said yesterday this clearly proved that the opposition had failed to walk the talk in calling for transparency.

“I don’t understand why it is so difficult for them to sign it. This shows they are not serious about transparency but merely use it as a political issue to fish for votes.

“They must stand up to be accountable. And, to sign that pledge is at least showing their sincerity to have a clean election,” Ngieng remarked.

He was commenting on Bernama report quoting the Election Commission (EC) as saying that it was a shame that the opposition party leaders were shying away from the integrity pledge.

EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar reportedly said it was incumbent on candidates contesting in the General Election to sign the pledge as the people desired representatives who did not merely profess to have integrity but practise it as well.

PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said: “The opposition refusal to sign Transparency International (TI) Malaysia’s Election Integrity Pledge, only reflect their ‘cakap tak serupa bikin’ or ‘want others to do good virtues but did not practise it themselves’ outlook.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Pelbagai bantuan yang diberikan kepada pelajar di peringkat rendah, menengah mahupun universiti di mana ianya sebagai satu inisiatif kerajaan membantu para pelajar untuk meringankan beban mereka. Baucar Buku 1 Malaysia merupakan bantuan yang diberikan kepada pelajar universiti termasuklah Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) bagi menampung perbelanjaan bertujuan akademik iaitu sebanyak RM250 setiap seorang.

Satu Majlis Simbolik Penyerahan Baucar Buku 1 Malaysia (BB1M) telah diadakan di Dewan Serbaguna, Student Pavillion yang telah dirasmikan oleh YB Tuan Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah iaitu Menteri Muda Perumahan dan Menteri Muda Pembangunan Belia Sarawak. Turut hadir dalam majlis itu adalah Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, Prof Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman selaku Timbalan Naib Canselor UNIMAS, Timbalan Naib Canselor Penyelidikan dan Inovasi, UNIMAS iaitu Prof Dr Peter Songan, Dekan-dekan, Pegawai-Pegawai UNIMAS, Yang Di-Pertua Universiti Malaysia Sarawak serta wakil Yang Di-Pertua Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.

Najib’s visit boosts feel good factor in Sarawak

SIBU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s latest visit to the state has boosted the feel good factor among Sarawakians, including fence sitters.

Several state BN leaders, when contacted, opined that the three-day visit last week had drawn more people towards the BN in view of the fast-approaching 13th general election.

State BN secretary-general and Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi remarked: “The PM has stated clearly BN’s direction and the transformation programmes to ensure a better future for all Malaysians.”

He added that it was important for Malaysia to have a stable government, especially in terms of security and politics.

“PM had revealed his mission and vision for Malaysia, and I am sure this has touched the heart of all Sarawakian, especially the fence sitters.”

PBB supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said enthusiasm was written all over the people’s faces everywhere Najib went.

“PM’s visit to Sarawak has definitely increased the mood and optimism of the people of Sarawak towards BN. The highly-charged spirit and the feel good feeling created would definitely bring more voters to BN, which includes the fence sitters,” noted Abdul Karim, who is Asajaya assemblyman and Assistant Minister of Youth Development.
